What We're Watching Right Now

Development proposals, surveillance, and enforcement activity that affect Mansfield today. Every one
of these is decided in a room you can walk into.

Local development

Two Projects On The Table

A self-storage facility has been proposed on Route 57 near the Mansfield Motel. Separately,
a developer has put feelers out to the Land Use Board about building condominiums on
the site of the historic train station and post office at Main Street and Port Murray Road.
Neither is a formal application yet.

Residents are urged to attend Town Council and Land Use Board meetings to learn more
and put their opinion on the record while both projects are still early.

Warehouses & data centers

The Threat Is County-Wide

Mansfield has passed an ordinance banning data centers in the township, but the threat of
warehouses and data centers remains across Warren County. Development next door still
reaches us — truck traffic, strain on our water supply, pressure on the electric grid, and
lasting environmental damage.

We are firmly opposed to this development. Several groups across northwest New Jersey
are organized and fighting it, and they need neighbors:

Flock cameras

Surveillance In Our Parking Lots

Flock cameras have been installed at the Home Depot on Route 57 and at the Lowe’s
in Hackettstown. We are firmly opposed to building a surveillance state in the name of
citizen safety.

We urge residents to go to Town Council and ask for an ordinance banning Flock cameras
in Mansfield. Talking points and news coverage are collected here:

ICE activity in our area

Protecting Our Neighbors

Our co-chair is a co-leader of Project NINJA, which has fought a proposed ICE detention
center in Roxbury for the last eight months. That effort has required DHS to complete
mandatory environmental reviews — likely 6 to 18 months before they could proceed. DHS
first said it would drop the project, then appeared to reverse course; its long-term
intentions are unclear.

Meanwhile ICE agents continue to make arrests across New Jersey, detaining
undocumented workers alongside U.S. citizens and legal immigrants, and repeatedly
breaking the law and using force against protesters, journalists, and lawful residents.
Fourteen people were arrested in the area earlier this month, including a man who was
here legally. He was released, but many wait weeks or months in detention while their
paperwork is reviewed.

We are concerned that local farms may be a next target, whether or not anyone working
there is undocumented. We urge residents to go to the Mansfield Town Council and ask
them to take steps to protect our neighbors.
